Hi! Should I Rebuild? 99 XC70
Hi all.
I love my 99 xc70 Wagon. it's been great. I've had it for about 2 years and it came well maintained and has been driving beautifully. Literally overnight, it seems, it started riding rough and hesitating to start. The engine light came on and stayed on. Took it in hoping it was a coil or plugs but unfortunately after a compression test, it was determined that the 2nd cylinder failed and was only running at 25 PSI's. So basically I'm running on 4 cylinders.
I'd like to keep the car running. Body is awesome, no rust, and when it's running well it's a smoother more comfortable ride than my wife's new Honda.
Has anyone out there had an engine rebuilt on this model or a similar experience? My mechanic says not to do it and look for another car but he hates Volvo's anyway! I trust the mechanics at this place but they work on all kinds of cars, not Volvo specialists. Should I take it to a Volvo place? He says it'll be around 2500-3k for the repair, and if that gets me back my reliable car then I'm fine with that.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks!

Burnt valve, my favorite.
If the rest of the car is in good shape, interior and all, I'd probably fix it. It is an expensive job if you pay to have it done. If you do it yourself, maybe with a little help, it can be done for about $1,000.
