Flushing the radiator like a "Pro"

Default Flushing the radiator like a "Pro"

I bought this thingy:

And I can't really figure out the best place to put it on. I want to give my car a real good radiator flush. The directions say to put in in-line with the heater inlet hose. I know that those hoses are located here:

But, which one is the inlet and which one is the outlet? Bottom or top?

Has anyone every installed this thing? My plan is to basically take out the hose, cut it in two, put in the hose adapter, and reinstall the hose.

The top hose is the inlet I believe. But I wouldn't hack into the hose. It just adds another two spots for potential future leaks.

What are you going to flush it with? Tap water? If so, you'll introduce mineral in the system.
