Default new member with issues, not me just the car

loaded the 99 xc70 with junque and headed to flea mkt to set up a table with my 14 yr old son. man were we pumped!! first doable day in 2 months and son wanted to sell of all his excess band equip. made it 5 miles from flea market and lost power and then engine stalled. no high temp on guage just the pull over and check engine light on. opened hood to find oil had pushed out the dip stick and water also pushed out so likely have head gasket issues. dilema is fix or ditch it.

i love the car, most everything works but wont start. im guessing 98-2000 with 56 in the 5/6 digits in vin will work, right?

anyone know of a good engine thats a good price??

not a mechanic but not an idiot either so is there any reason a diy guy cant do the engine swap??

level of difficulty?

what should i do first, compression test?? thanks for any and all input and assistance. any guys semi local to columbus ga??

cheers mates, 706,392,2580cell mark

98 won't work, it has a different ignition and throttle system. 99 uses the coil on plug and electronic throttle.

Just 99 and 2000 for the XC70. Not sure if the C70 came with the 56 engine code, but if so, then 1999-2003 should work. Also, 99-2000 S70 if they had the 56 engine code.
