So. How's Your PCV System?
1999 XC70 362,000 kms / 224,936 miles
It was time to either scrap our XC70 or try to breath some life back into it. I've known all the owners since it was new (I bought it in 2009) and it came with a staggeringly thick bundle of service records but PCV system service or replacement was one thing I could not find a record of!
So I got my PCV kit and TB/water pump kit and flew at it, all the while expecting the worst... After all, the noxious fumes in the car when stopped/idling made your eyes water and it blew up a rubber glove like a balloon when attached to the oil filler neck.
Yup, oil drain port was plugged solid. Sump off, then.
Pictures worth a 1,000 words, no?

Busy day today!
Got the sump and assorted parts back from dip cleaning - cleaned up very nicely!
I had cleaned up everything else yesterday and reassembled the fuel rail, changed out the o-rings, etc.
Reassembled sump and all the assorted goodies.
Trip to Volvo for a right side engine mount and trans torque mount (ouch!) plus assorted stuff from local Lordco.
Question: what is that counter weight for on the dif? What does it offset / balance?
Changed out the TB and waterpump plus a new serp belt.
Re-loomed all of the assorted broken / crumbling looming top to bottom.
Issue were thankfully few: that banjo bolt under the intake manifold plus hooking up the rear most elbow to the top of the PCV box was certainly a challenge!
Fired it up. Ran rough like it had a dead coil but straighten itself out!
I have some cleaning up to do tomorrow morning!
