02' xc70 low beam issue
2002 XC70 Right Side Low Beam Was Not Working So I Replaced Bulb With A new H7. Well, While I Was Removing The Plastic Connector From The Old Bulb The Connector Crumbled (appears to be an common issue)
I Removed Old Bulb, Installed New Bulb, Now Both Left And Right Low Beam Not Working. I Checked The Low Beam Fuse In The Engine Bay, Blown, (I figured one of the wires in the broken connector must have shorted thus the blown fuse) I Replaced The Fuse And Also Checked The Left Dash Panel Low Beam, It Was OK. Now Both Low Beam Not Working. . I Guess The Next Step Will Be To Check The Shunt And Low Beam Relay On The ECM Board Under The Drivers Side Dash? What Say You???
UPDATE: 04/24/14
Well, I Contorted My Body To Get A Look At The Low Beam "Shunt" Located On The Drivers Side Above And To The Left Of Pedals.
Picture #1: Shows Shunt A Smaller Than Credit Card Size Black "Card Like" Relay. Not
Really A Relay But You Get The Point.
Picture #2: Another Picture Of Shunt As It Is Located On Board. Smaller Of The Three
"Card Like" Plug-ins.
Picture #3: Shunt After Removal. (I Noted No Discoloration On The Connectors Which Can
Sometimes Contribute to A Contact Issue.)
Picture #4: Shows Spacing Between Larger Shunts And Smaller Low Beam Shunt.
Picture #5: Is A Shot Looking Up From The Floor. (Notice Shunt On Left Side)
I Ordered A Shunt Online Volvo Part #9442190a Cost about $2.25 w/free Shipping, Again This Is For A 2002 XC70.
I'll Keep You Posted As To My Progress.
Please Feel Free To Add You Expertise Or Experience If You Feel So Inclined. Thanks.
Update: 04-29-14
Ok, I Received The Low Beam Shunt In The Mail...Here Is What Happened.
1st: I Disconnected Negative Battery Terminal.
2nd: Removed Low Beam Shunt From Relay Board Under Drivers Side Dash / Installed
New Shunt As Pictured Below.
3rd: Re-connected Negative Battery Terminal.
4th: Started Vehicle / Checked Low Beam Headlights / Right Side Now Working / Left
Side Not Working.
5th: With Vehicle Running I Checked All Related Fuses With A Test Light / All Good.
6th: I Checked For Power At Left Side Bulb / Bulb Has Power / Possibly Bad Bulb?
So For Right Now I Have No Low Beam On Driver Side.
Any Ideas???
UPDATE: 05/08/14:
Ok...So At The Moment I Have A Right Side Low Beam (Which Was The Original Problem Because It Was Not Working) However, I Do Not Have A Working Left Side Low Beam. Go Figure.
Tomorrow I Will Check The Bulb For Continuity, And For Power At The Bulb, And The Fuses, All Like I Did Before.
Maybe It Is Just The Bulb???
>>>Unrelated, I Am Also Acquiring What Is Needed To Replace The Radiator, Coolant Flush, And ATF Flush. Thought It Would Be The Best Time Considering.>>>
Update: 05/28/14:
I Checked Left Side Bulb Continuity, OK. Still Not Working. I Replaced Left Side Bulb.....Get Ready For This....Now It Works?!
So At The Moment All Is Good. Not Sure What The Issue Was, However, What I Did Was Check Fuses, Replace Stint Under Dash, And Replace Both Low Beam Bulbs.
So There You Have It.
I Would Also Like To Thank Everyone For Their Valuable Input And Experience In Helping With This Issue.
Happy Trails.....
