Car shaking when accelerating rapidly
I bought my 2001XCv70 back in march and a check engine light came on almost immediately afterwards. I took it to a volvo specialist and he told me it had 2 codes. One was for a side mirror temp sensor, so nothing to worry about, and the other was for a CVT, which should be replaced but he said he would feel safe with his wife driving it the way it is until it actually started causing problems. A week later it started misfiring and burned through 3 coils, turns out it had some crappy broken spark plugs, so we replaced all 5 and for the past 3 months it has run like a dream. Last week I thought I felt a misfire, but didn't feel it again so I continued on my way. A few days ago I felt it misfire multiple times so I made it an appointment and took it in. He couldn't find anything wrong with it. Same 2 codes as before and a third code saying there was a misfire in cylinder 8, which can't be possible seeing as it is a 5 cyl. He checked my oil and did an oil change since it was low and dirty (the guy that sold it to me said he just changed it but that had to have been a lie). On my way home it felt fine, until I hit the gas to accelerate around someone, then it was shaking really badly but went away as soon as I stopped accelerating. It also shudders and seems to have a power dip when the A/C is on. I drove it around again yesterday to make sure it was fine to pick my husband up from the airport and it was fine. Got on the freeway to get him last night and it did the shaking thing again, seems to have lost horsepower accelerating quickly, but if you accelerate slowly it is fine. Gas mileage has even improved. It isn't over heating. It felt like it was blowing warm air in, but that could have been because we were not using A/C and had the windows down near the beach, right? Anyways my hubby is worried that my mechanic is giving me bad advice and intentionally making me destroy my car to need more extensive repairs. Is there anything I should specifically have him check out that could cause it to shake when accelerating rapidly that wouldn't make it shake any other time? Any ideas would be appreciated.
