View Full Version : Got a few questions for my moms V70
on_ice 03-03-2005, 07:59 PM Sup Fellas,
My mom just got a 1998 Volvo V70. Her last car was a 1993 MErcedes 300 something station wagon. I dont exactly like the look of the V70 or the Mercedes but the Volvo seems to have a much nicer/reliable drivetrain and engine and the interior is much nicer also. Anyways my dad wants to get rid of the stock steelies and wants to get the 15" Turbine looking wheels. What year Volvos have the same backspacing and such as my moms V70? I like the 17" rims on the newer volvo that are like 17 spoked, will those fit. Other mods coming are window tint, all red tailights, homemade cold air intake and maybe some other mods you guys can suggest to me.
If you can try to find a nice set of V70R or 850R rims. They are nice 5 spoke dark grey rims.

Well I don't know about your experiance with the Mercedes, but my experiance with my mom's 98 V70 XC was/is not good. The trans failed after 150,000 miles as compared to my 85 240 which has 301,000 and is still going strong. It also looks like the drive shaft needs to be replaced as well. As far as interior problems go we had trouble with the interior panels delaminating soon after we got the car. We gave up on fixing those because they are too expensive to replace. The only other major problem for us was the ABS computer got fried.
on_ice 03-11-2005, 07:31 PM Whats the bolt pattern and back spacing for these cars? I found a set of rims with this:
Size: 17" x 7"
Offset: 40mm
Bolt Pattern: 4 x 100 or 4 x 114.3
Will that fit my moms V70(98)
I don't know it off hand but try doing a search.I know I have seen someone post it before.
on_ice 03-12-2005, 03:23 PM Tech, do you know what year rims wil fit? Is it different for lets say a 95 thne a 98?
The 95-2000 should be the same.I think the 2001 and up are the same lug pattern but just diffrent back spacing.
Also just remembered the lug pattern is the same as the front wheel drive ford taurus. The backspacing I think is a little diffrent but If you are looking aftermarket that might help A little.
on_ice 03-12-2005, 04:29 PM Whats the difference in backspacing?
Im not sure what the diffrence is between the both of them.A tire shop may be able to tell you.I know a buddy of mine had a set of Borbet rims on his 850 wagon. Then he sold them to a buddy that had a taurus and they bolted up and looked good. The backspacing might be minor in diffrence.
on_ice 03-12-2005, 05:16 PM Hey I found some 850 R rims that are local to me for $600 for 5(one with tire). They are off a 97 and they are 17x 7 I THINK. My dad doesnt think we should get em because he doesnt want the speedo to be off or get any tire rub. What do you think, how far will the speedo be off?
Thats not that bad of a price.I thin it might be off like 5mph.I think there is some way to change the speedo calibration But I don't remember off hand.I will see if I can find out.
on_ice 03-12-2005, 07:43 PM What about clearance, think well be good? Thanks alot man for all your help.
You should be fine the R rims were made to fit on those cars.
on_ice 03-13-2005, 08:34 PM Sweet, how much do these rims usually go for? Either I wait and see how much I can get them for on ebay, or I pay $600 now and get them. Think its worth the extra money for these? Tires are gonna be more expensive and everything. Maybe I should just get those ones on IDT.
New I think they are close to $300.00 a peice. You are paying about $125.00 a peice for them used.Have you checked E-bay yet? There is some that say they fit S70/V70 not R-rims but 17's.
