2003 - XC 70 - 27K Purchased Volvo certified 10 months ago with 13K.

We have had it in to the dealer a number of times for various rattles. Dash, center console, doors etc.. The newest is in the passenger door. It was "fixed" by replacing a rivet, said to be not covered by Volvo because Volvo describes replacing a rivet as an "adjustment", no different than a loose screw etc.. This was $110 to get fixed, the fact that it is now worse is beside the point.

I am going to take it back and have the real problem fixed.

Does anyone have any insight into either the tendency of this model to rattle and or the deffinition of a rivet being an "adjustable" clamping device?

Volvo is very funny about that.Im not sure why they charged you $110.00 for the installation of the rivet.I would raise holly H***.And not accept the car till they test drive with you to show you it is repaired.When you take it back talk to the service manager or shop foreman and test drive with them.Then they can Q.C. the car and make sure it is fixed.

The dealer in Austin charges $92/hr for labor and they said they had to take the door panel off to find the problem.

How hard would you suggest one debate the fact that rivets are not inherently "adjustable"? Or is that one of those battles not worth loss of troops as long as the problem is fixed?

I would not battle about paying for the rivet itself.I would battle at the fact that you paid that much money to have it fixed and it was never fixed.

P.S. removing the door panel should only be a 1/2 labor.

Also if you are still in the 100% factory warranty then bring it up to the service manager about paying for the repair all together.

I was told I was outside of the 12 month or 12k mile, fix anything type warranty.

I do have a 72 month 100k limited warranty that to my understanding came with the Certified Vehicle designation when we purchased. I will speak with the service manager and have this explained in detail.
