My 2.9l s80 will not start today, and I am getting this "reduced engine performance" on the dash display.
2003 that just had it's 60k services done...
Any ideas ??

You need to have the codes pulled.
Could be a bad mass flow sensor.
Could be a bad throttle body.
Could be many things thats why you need to have the codes pulled first.

I as well am receiving a "performance reduced" msg. Looks like there are problems with the throttle body.

Went to pick it up today.( they replaced the fuel pump) but only got 1/2 block before it died again....check engine light stayed on and would not start again....Waiting to hear from the Service Advisor ??? sigh...I love my car...dammit.

It might be something as simple as the tech didn't have the pump unit set properly.

The antenna ring is part of the immoblizer system on the car.

1.some 2002 and all 2003 up use a bosch style throttle module unlike 99-02 magneti-merelli throttle modules the bosch has been less problematic. ypur car has the bosch. 03
2. the reduced engine performance light will not come on due to a faulty antenna ring (antenna ring is as prevously stated part of the immobelizer system) an antenna ring will not allow communication from the chip in the key to the ecm to start the car. the reduced engine performance message came on due to an other problem

Is it possible to retrofit the Italian throttle body to the newer Bosch??

Not that I am aware of because it is a totaly different system.
The older was a module itself.
The newer style it just the end of the line it just openes and closes according to the voltage it receives.

What a shame! I guess we are going to be saddled with the Italian piece of garbage. Maybe an aftermarket supplier will come forward??
