Hi everyone, I am new member to this forum and new member to volvo world. I have just purchased 2004 S60 2.4 manual 4 months ago, i bought it brand new. Last week I just take it to my first service, and tell the service guys that i hear some kind of clicking noise from the engine and i advised them when i hit the clutch the noise disappears, they said they will check on this. While i was waiting service tech come to me and told me that they had to change the whole transmission, i was devistated. I left the service with a loaner because "it was not safe" to drive the car, they told me. Anyway after 3 days they have called me and said they did not have to change the transmission but they had to replace some parts. i got the car yesterday and i have still same noise coming from the engine. They trying to tell me that the noise is normal. This my first volvo but i don't belive their comment about the noise. Do any one has the same problem?

thx

If it dissappeares when you hit the clutch it is not normal.
If it is there all the time the injectors on these cars are pretty loud and will make like a tapping noise.Which is normal.

I know the sound is not from the injectors, its definitely at the clutch area. The one thing that I can add is that, the sound is not there when I start the car in the morning. It starts after I start driving it for a while. According to the paperwork, here is what they have done:

41112-2 Clutch Driven Plate / Pressure Plate Remove Install/Replace (3)
8675218 Driven Plate
1161745 Transmission O

Could very well be the throw out bearing or the pilot bearing.
When it gets hot it makes noise then when you push the clutch pedal down all will have pressure on them.

Okay, today I went for a 5 minute drive. Here is some more clues. I didn't hear the clicking noise. But, I could barel feel a tick at the clutch pedal when I pushed the pedal. So, it seems to be coming from the engine side of the clutch, because it was a continuous tick. And also, is it supposed to make a (knock) noise when the clutch engages (at idle and in neutral)?

It will make a little noise from the clutch peices working.
I would have the dealer look at the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing.
