Hey everyone, i dont know if this is the right spot to post this, i have not looked around on the forum for that long. I am interested in buying a c70 i do not know too much about them, i wanted to do some research. i am going to be looking for the coupes not the convertables. is there anything i should look out for, any years to avoid? how many miles do can you get out of the engine before you start running into some sieriouse problems? i am very familier with cars and can do just about any type of work on them (jeeps especialy) so i know hoses and little things go bad and you have to put regular maintenance in them, but has far as the engine and transmition go, how do they hold up? thank for any feedback, if there is somthing else anyone can think of i should look out for, or any information about the car please let me know. thank you!

The main draw backs with the C70 is the poor turning radious and the window regulators.
Other than that the engines will last till atleast 300,000 miles the transmission is anyones guess some last 200,000 and some last 50,000.

If it were me I would look for a 1998 only to save on some money.The 99 and newer have electronic throttle body's that go bad.It costs about 1,200 to replace them with the software downloads.And the 99 and up needs software downloads when certain parts are installed.
Thats why I would stick with the 1998.

that was going to be another question, how well their electrical stuff holds up. i like cars with less computers and junk, they are much eaiser to work on. ok i will stick with looking for a 98. do these cars have come with gass shocks? i take it all the c70 are turbo? sorry for all the basic questions is there a place somwhere that has a build sheet of the basic thing the car comes with? thank for all the help

Yes all the C70's are turbo.Im not sure of a place to find a basic sheet overall.The rest of the electrical system is good for the most part.The 99 and newer ones main problem was the throttle modules and having to download software for most of the stuff.
They have normal gas shocks.

are volvos made and engineered by ford? or just owned by ford?

With the 2004.5 is when they started putting some ford parts on the car.
Other than that they sat back and just owned Volvo.
They used suspension parts and stuff like that on the newer cars.

in 98 did they have the high pressure turbos? how do you know if its HP the engine from the one i am looking at says 2.3L I-5 EFI DOHC TC/IC

Most of the time if it has t-5 on the car it is the high pressure turbo.
If it has 2.3T then it is the low pressure turbo.

Tech.................2.3 is the high pressure.................2.4 is the low pressure.

is there any down side to having the HP engine? because it runs at a higher pressure will it be more susceptible to wearing down faster? (i dont know much about turbos)

sorry for all the questions but i think this might be the last one! i keep looking at car fax for these vin's and car fax will say its a 2.4l and the owner says its a 2.3. is there anywhere on the car that the owner could take a picture of that proves its a hiph preasure turbo?

You should be able to translate it from the white sticker under the hood.
It will show the engine class # it will look like B 5234

What Vin# is it showing?47=B 5204t 57=B5234t 58= B5234t-5 59=B 5234 but refers to tailand.

BTW: all the C70's are high pressure turbo.I beleive they only came avalible in one engine

53= B5234 2.319 liters Boost=26.4 PSI Normal and 28 PSI max.

just picked it up today. its great. only thing is it might need some radiator fluid, i noticed the sticker that says use volvo stuff only and do not mix fluids. it that just volvos way of getting you to buy their stuff, or is it ok to add some other stuff in there? and also after the 400 mile drive back when i turned the car on the service light came on for a couple mins then turned off. is that anything to worry about? thanks, i will get some pics up soon:D

For now you can just add some water to top it off.
I would flush it pretty soon just to be safe.You can use other than Volvo coolant.I like the Volvo coolant but you can use what you want.

Exactly which year was it that you bought.If it is a 98 then you will need to have the light reset by someone that has the service light tool. If it is a 99 or newer then do a search on this forum for "service light reset" and it will tell you how to do it.

It might just be easier to find the dealer running a $19.99 oil change special and have them do it and reset the light at the same time.Most dealers will reset the light for free with an oil change.

wow dealers are really that cheap? i ended up going to jiff lube. first car i have ever paid someone else to change the oil in. i need to change the tranny fluid and flush the radiator if i do those myself it wont mess up any computer stuff will it? i assume its just like any other car, drain tranny fluid, drop pan, change filter, and refill; or do these trannys not have filters?

The C70 does not have a filter.
No it will not mess anything up in the computer.
Most dealers will run an oil change special for like $20.00 or something like that.
