Recently bought a 01 S60 and want to detail it. What is the best way to get rid of the wax residue that stained the exterior black trim - who ever detailed it previously got kinda careless. I heard rubbing peanut butter would take it off...any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

That was posted on this or another Volvo forum in the last couple of days. I used KIWI Shoe Dye (not polish, but dye) to blacken the trim on both my sons 850 and my S60.

Hands down one of the best things that I have discovered is Forever Black Bumper & Trim Dye.

I had an Xterra with that problem. I found the best thing short of repainting the trim was to use some Armor-all and elbow grease. Dunno if it will work on this kind of trim, but it's worth a try. Good luck.

Alright I had this problem pretty badly on my S60. I tried Back to Black first and it just wouldn't cover up or remove the wax. Next I tried PEANUT BUTTER. Worked like a champ! I used an old tooth brush and simply worked my way around in 3 ft sections. The trim almost looks new. I am goign to apply back to black once a month so from now on.

bannanas to clean glass cola for chrome and now peanut butter for bumpers!! turning into quite a picnic looking forward to deatailing my car next!! lol :D

I've just tryed that Forever Black Dye that SMF was talking about. Works pretty good.

Yep been using forever black dye on wax residue. It really works. I think you should try it too.

I'd stay away from "Back to Black" as it tends to run.

I put Forever Black on my V70 and have gotten right up on it with my pressure washer and it still looks fantastic. The more coats you do the glossier it gets, but after a while it's not dying the plastic anymore it's just building up on top so high pressure will cause it to come off.

I've had success with a white eraser (thought it wasn't on the Volvo).

The oil in the p-butter helps lift out the wax residue. I've used Forever Black and it's good stuff. The Armor-All is too greasy and does not hold the shine as well, IMHO. Reapply the FB every quarter to 6 months and you'll be alright.
