Any one have any idea on who makes the engines and transmissions for the C30. Do they have a ford or yamaha engines like some of the other Volvos or do they have a volvo engine? Also what transmission do they have, do they have a GM transmission, a Asian Warner transmission or a Volvo transmission?
Thank You

nt sure who makes the trans but the volvo tech told me it is the same trans from the earlier R series cars and could handle any torque thrown at it. I'm gonna see him tuesday and ask if he knows who makes them.

The tech said he believe Volvo make both the engines and transmissions.
The engine is a Volvo engine.. pretty similar the older style 5 cylinders but oil filter move upward to save space... the transmission is an Aisin Warner AW55-50SN (automatic) 5 speed auto same transmission since 2001 v70,s60,xc90 (5 cylinder), xc70, 2004 s60R,V70R... For torque handling wise it's marginal... the new 6 speed auto is much better at it (2005 and up S60R V70R, XC90 3.2 and V8, generation 2 S80, generation 3 XC70 and V70) the 6 speed auto is not available with C30, c70, s40 v50....

I heard the 6-speed was made by Getrag from Germany. Tom

From what I've read, the motor is the same used in the Ford Focus ST which would lead me to agree that the 6spd. is manufactured by Getrag, as the Focus SVT and RS models I know are Getrag trans.
just drove one, it was fun :) this test car was a 5spd. auto did not like the "tip-tronic" shifting option though lurches like the many others i've driven, smoother in regular auto mode, though the shifting of the trans. was slow enough to exasperate the low powerband (obviously feels best "under the curve")
so this is a Volvo engine used in a Ford vehicle?
