Have no water exiting boat with ears (high or low water pressure, and physically clamping the ears onto the drive inlet)
New impeller, installed correctly
Checked (by water hose spray) from impeller inlet hose back thru to thedrive input
thru manifolds from front hoses (off thermostat housing)
checkedall the water plugs to insure flow (block + manifold)
2001 model, never changed themostat or water pump _ and havent checked(out of time, going back later - hoping with some suggestions from forum pros!)

Was is the best "shopping place" for volvo parts on the net? Getting ripped at the local yokels...

First
what year 4.3L or red or black
they changed water pumps
i bet you have the wrong one

if you email me or post your serial i can check it through my dealers network
give you all the bulletins and everything

even if u put the impeller in wrong, it will flop Right over

did u overheat last time?
was the old impeller blades still there

i would do t-stat stat

as water coming out the exhaust?
if so could be bad sender

I'll have to get the serial #
Factory water pump (2001) model - it is black, I'm wondering if it may be a 2000 motor in a 2001 boat- wasnt the orange/red stuff used from 2001-present?

Never overheated
Going to pull thermostat today (clogged I hope)
No water out of exhaust with motor running, but it did blow out antifreeze solution (thru exhaust) from winterization
And what is a "sender"?

I'm here now. It's a flow problem - the thermostat has free movement. Is this thermostat removeable?(see link) The exact model is a 4.3 GL PEFS. Trying to eliminate everything before throwing parts at it>>>

Same as I pulled out. Strange thing is I can disconnect the inlet hose (from the stern) at the impeller - I can spray water back into that hose, it comes out the stern///and if I crank motor & spray water into the impeller inlet. water comes out the exhaust. Is there another pump or some kind of one-way flapbetween the water inlet on the stern & the impeller inlet?? BTW, thanks for all your advice.

Wouldn't that be a !?#*!!...

Storms yesterday forced me to leave out- I'll go by today and get the part# of the new imp off the box (still in boat). Can you shot me the part# from the engine type I sent earlier -- if you have a chance to look it up? Thanks

well you got the right one
look on the back of the box
should have 3 water pump pics on it

replace the t-stat

I'm not sure how that t-stat comes out of that housing-it looks almost built into it. Anyway, I pulled that complete housing out Saturday, and pouredsome H2Othru the thermostat from the bottom & checked the movement of the spring load - and both were ok. I really wish at this point it was the wrong impeller! ha ha

Ever held a lighter up nearthe sender to check if it was working? I was wondering what would happen if I put it in the water -- could this all just be a priming problem, and would the temp gauge give me a heads up if no water was being circulated?

it is not
pain to get off
i would replace that and try from there

no just ground out sender wire and gauge should go to full hot

Do ya just pry this one off (t-stat), and cram the new one in or what?

I was FINALLY able to get some good water flow Saturday, seems like it was a priming problem or I pumped enough water thru it that it dislodged whatever was blocking the path. It has a light drip from both of the exhaust tubes exiting the risers(seelink, at thejoint of parts11+13). Is that just regular condensation? Thanks for all your help.

you might want to tighten the clamps a little
