Hi...

I'm not a Volvo owner but I am a skilled shadetree mechanic who isposting for a friend of mine who knows nothing about cars. She has a 1997 Volvo 850 with a faulty horn - the horn sounds constantly, so she removed the fuse.

thestealership told her the contacts in the steering wheel were corroded and she would have to replace the wheel - at a price of $450.

yeah. right. like she's gonna fork over $450 for a pair of corroded brass contacts.

i told her i'd ask around and see if there was any way to fix this.

i haven't taken the wheel apart because i wanted to ask around first and see if anyone knew of an easy and inexpensive way to fix this problem?

My horn was not working. Brougt it to Volvo. They said that the contacts were bad (apparently quite common)on the steering wheel, and that the wheel needed replacing...also quoted at about $450.

I bought a used steering wheel for $100. I had another garage change it for $80. As the airbag needs to be removed, it is really a job for someone with experience).

Bought the wheel (mailorder)from:

Good luck!
