Evening all,

I'm driving a V40 for a while and have to do a long trip up to Scotland in a few days. I've noticed there's an intermittent squeak coming from the front left suspension which I'm not sure if I should be concerned about. It sounds exactly like if you jump up and down on a bed. Doesn't happen all the time, and will disappear for some days, but always comes back. If I bounce the front of the car on that side I can recreate it. There's no play in the wheel, but the noise seems to happen more if it is pointing left. Is there a common cause for this on these cars? I wondered if it might be suspension bushes that have worn a bit, or if it could be something more serious. Car is a 2000 V40 2.0 manual.

Could be a bad sway bar link or a bad upper spring seat.

From what I could see, the spring appears to be seated properly, but what would be the best way to test the sway bar? I'd rather not dismantle it unless I have to.

You can tug on the sway bar and see if you feel it clicking. If you do it is bad.
