no lie, 17 with a friggin volvo?
age: car
16: 82 AMC Concorde - Inline 5, but had a glasspack, with a hole in it >.< sounded like a wwII airplane comin up the road
17: 77 Dodge Power Wagon - 400 V8 4sp, 33" AT tires - a real beast. fouled plugs + $10 gas a DAY (back when it was .92/gal)
18: 84 Olds Firenza - 4cyl something 5sp. hatchback, ran like crap, and poor brown paint - dubbed "the turd"
19: 84 Nissan 720 Pickup - Z24 Dual-Plug 4cyl, 5sp - the exact same engine in the 280ZX, only in a pickup. when i first got it for $700, it has almost 200k miles. ran like a bat outa heck! finally got rid of it somewhere in the 600k mile range. i dont know exactly what it was, because the odometer would skip from .8 mi to .2 of the next mile, so it would add the miles. the odo read at 483k miles for 2 years :D
23: 96 volvo glt wags

List of cars. You guys are going to love this:
14 - 1954 Ford six cyl stick on the column
16 - 56 Chevy Bel Aire 4 door hard top 265 4 brl dual exhaust
17 - 61 Plymouth Fury (I think) 318 Push Button automatic
19 - 64 Pontiac Catalina 389 two barrel - piece of crap
22 - 69 Chevelle Malibu 350 two barrel single exhaust that would run right with the SS 396's for some reason
25 - 73 Oldsmobile Cutlas 350 4 barrel single exhaust. Should have my ass kicked for trading the Chevelle in on this!
28 - Got married wife took Cutlas and I took her 74 Mercury Capri - Cutlas had A/C Capri didn't
30 - 78 Jeep Wagoneer - I was the first to have an SUV
?? - 84 Pontiac Bonneville Station Wagon - Should have my butt kicked for trading the Jeep in on this one
?? - 66 VW Karman Ghia Convertible - Fell apart literally the bottom fell out of it.
?? - 82 Subaru GL
?? - 85 Volvo 760 Turbo Diesel
?? - 76 Jeep Cherokee Chief - Volvo would not tow the boat so I bought this for $2,000, drove it for 2 years and sold for $2,200
?? - Ford Starcraft Conversion Van - don't remember the year. Didn't like it at all
?? - 88 Toyota 4 Runner
?? - 89 Volvo 760 Intercooler
?? - 93 GMC Suburban
?? - 94 Volvo 850 Turbo
52 - 80 Porsche 911SC - They tried to tell me my Suburban was a mid-life crisis car. Guess I showed them.
55 - 98 Volvo V70 - Still have it
56 - 97 Volvo 850 R
I'm sure the R will make it into that list somewhere since it's really the same basic car as the 94 850, but not there yet.

Mine was not the GRAND Wagoneer so it did not have all the wood look on the side, just the 3-4 inch strip. I'm glad it didn't. That stuff would fade and peel off in time. It was just contact paper, not real wood. It was silver with a maroon interior with the bench seat in the front. Wish it had the bucket seats. It was a fun car for off roading, especially hill climbing, but the car had problems. Remember it was built by AMC at that time. Good engine and 4WD system, but cosmetic stuff sucked. I bought it brand new in 78 for around $8,000. It listed for something like $12K, but my brother was the a salesman at the dealership.

nah, theres no website, its a local vendor. the store usually only has 5-8 vehicles at a time. been around for a long time, usually has fairly upper class vehicles, as in, he also has a bimmer (newer, dont know the year), a 50-some buick in really nice condition. the owner also owns the taco bell next door to it. if your really curious, i could get a phone number for you.
edit: my apologies, its a 96 looks like this model
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/508266
visually, the difference is a light yellow paintjob (not the factory, i believe its lighter, almost a pastel, or easter yellow), and large custom wing on the back, about as tall as the roof of the car, body wide, with 3rd brake light in it. it looks really nice.

18-VW Beetle 1970? 1200cc engine stick
18-Peugeot 104 hatchback 1000 cc-stick - 1977 - (loved the car, crashed it to smithereens)
22-Peugeot 304 - stick
26-Mazda familia 1500cc hatchback 1990, fully modded, lowered, spaced out wheels.
27-Mazda Astina, 1500cc stick, completely souped up (The all time favourite yet)
31- Moved to Canada
31-(3 months after!!!) 1990 Ford tempo - stick!!(Imagine that) paid $500 for car.
32-Dodge Neon 2000
34-BMW 320i - 1994 - very good car, expensive to maintain.
35-Volvo s70 T5 SE - 2.3litre turbo - Very happy so far. Great car, comfy, safe and damn fast as well!
Next dream - older Porsche 944s - 1980's something - working on it right now.

The Maxima deffinitely felt stronger and peppier. It has a softer ride. The 2.9 seems to have tighter steering and better feedback from the road.
The both rattle about the same.
I liked driving the Maxima, but I'm enjoying the leather heated seats in the 2.9.

My first car was a '41 Plymouth business coupe with the hugest trunk I ever saw. [:-]
I can't remember all of the ones in between but they include several pre '56 chrysler products, a '61 valiant wagon with a 170 engine that was probably the best buy I ever made - I sold it sometime in the '80s with 265k miles on it - a '60 or '61 rambler I got from my parents, a 62? Tempest with an incredibly strong ohv 6 cyl. engine, a '65 Fury with the 318 engine, a 144 that I lost to an ex wife - although my oldest son bought it back from her a couple of years later, a Monte Carlo of a vintage I can't recall, and probably 10 or 20 others along the way.
I now have a '73 P1800ES, a "91 740 turbo wagon, a '95 850 turbo wagon and an older 1982 Chevy one ton dually to drag my 5th wheel trailer around.
I just joined today and had to add something to this topic. :D

hocbj23, my first car was a 56 Chevy Bel-Aire 4 door hard top with a 265 4 barrell and dual exhaust. Darn thing rusted and practically fell apart. I didn't realize they made the 265 as early as 1950? For some reason I thought the first year was 1955, but I guess I'm wrong. A 1950 Chevy Coupe sounds like a nice car. Sure would like to have one today.

LMAO. You are right. Chevy first put a V-8 in their cars in 1955. My Chevy started life with an anemic Blue Flame 6 that was way worn out when I bought it. My dad and I performed a "heart transplant" and put the lille 265 V-8 in my coupe. It was a screamer but being 16 at the time I kept twisting rear ends and clutches out of it. I swapped it for my second car a 1953 Studebaker Commander coupe with the 289 V-8. Nearly as fast but much more reliable > Bj

I remember my Dad had a 1955 Studebaker Hawk with a V8 and three speed on the column with overdrive. It was known as one of the fastest cars in town. I remember him telling a story of shifting from 2nd to 3rd (in a 3 speed on the column) at 100 mph. I don't know how true that is, but I do know that if anybody tried to mess with him he blew their doors off. Some teenagers had a 54 Chevy all souped up and a teenage son of the mechanic that worked on the my Dads's car was driving the Hawk and he beat the Chevy going up route 70 outside of Pittsburgh. I was probably only about seven of eight when he that car, but I remember it to this day. It was painted red, white and blue until he wrecked and had it painted all blue. Never ran the same.
Back then Studebaker had one called the Golden Hawk which was a really neat looking car and it was painted a gold color. Our wagon had the same engine and transmission as the Golden Hawk. He sold that car and bought a Studebaker Lark. Now that was a piece of crap.

I remember the Hawks,a Golden Hawk and a Silver Hawk. Always lusted after one but could not afford.I traded my 1953 Stude for a 1962 Stude Lark Daytona with the R3 Avanti engine, 4 speed floor shift duals, posi, etc. Great car for straight line performance but not much else. Body was great but the red and white interior was a pile of poop. Had it redone by a shop here locally and it looked graet after that. I love dthe car, but it had no air and not much of a radio and when I got out of the service it had to go. Bj

I like those cars and the nastalgia that goes along with them, but I'll take an 850 Turbo over any car I ever owned. And I once owned a Porsche 911SC. I just really like driving Volvo's that will blow the doors off of cars that people think are fast. I guess I'm kind of like my Dad was with the Studebaker station wagon. But cars today handle. Those cars just went fast in a straight line.

Everything(including me) looks better in retrospect. There is no comparison between todays cars and the cars of the 50' 60' 70' and 80's. Todays cars are so much better last longer look better and and handle better.Plus who would believe that a tiny (by comparison) 1.9 liter engine with a puffer will put out 220 hp at the wheels ,run 14's, and will hit the rev limiter and top speed without breaking a sweat. Remarkible cars. BJ

I might agree with everything but the looks of cars. That Studebaker Hawk had a look about it that was very futuristic for the time. I turn my head every time I see a 57 Chevy, because I still think the lines on that car and the 62 - 65 Corvette Sting Rays are the best ever made. I do like the looks of the Volvo 850 as much as any modern day car though. If they had the performance they have, but was rear wheel drive they would really be something. You really have to careful with that much power in FWD. I like the feeling of the rear wheels driving when I drive my sons BMW. It's terrible on a wet road though, not to even mention snow.

Well other than a few high dollar specialty cars, I think RWD is gone. AWD is the wave of the future because it is idiot proof and allows even a bad driver to redeem them selves.I also love the looks of the 57 chevy and stude but other than looks todays cars have them whupped.BJ

I disagree about the RWD. Alot of the Automotive company's are going back to it.
GM, The GTO,Transam,Camaro(coming back in a year or 2)
Ford, Mustang,Crownvic, I think another of the new ones are still RWD but not sure.

I have to agree with Tech. RWD is def not gone, its obviously making a comeback. However, no matter how much traction control/stability control u give RWD car, its no good in the snow let alone a high horsepower car in the rain. Infinti gave the G35 sdn the AWD option, so does Chrysler with the 300C and Volvo to name a few.
The reality is if u live in the snow belt, RWD is not good. I would have loved a Cadillac CTS-V or new GTO. But Ive had a Firebird, and dont want to go thru that mess in the snow/ice againfor my primary car.

I think you guys just made my case for me. All the cars you listed were high dollar specialty cars. I think there will always be a manufacturer or two that remembers the muscle car days of the 70's and produces a limited number of RWD cars. Even the relatively inexpensive Crown Vic is probaly being kept alive by sales to police and taxi companies. The hottest segment in shows now are the "tuner cars" that are all AWD or FWD. Hey, I'm a throwback. I grew up in the 50's and I love RWD , but my Volvo is such a great car that I wouln't think of returning to RWD as a daily driver. Drag strip? That's another issue, but there are tuner cars out there now that are streetable and turn 13's in the quarter mile. BJ

1978 Chevette (piece of ****)
plz tell me you didnt have the optional trailer hitch....
my 2 bitts about chevettes -
1) they had a trailer hitch. WHAT FOR? i heard a comic say once, it was so you can pull a backup chevette. if/when the one your driving breaks down, just move the tags over, leave that one on the side of the road, and take off in the next one.
2) this is not a lie. i seen a chevette that had a 350 v8 dropped in it. i was in high school, so it seemed awesome! however, he kept complaining about his overheating issues. so i looked at it, and i smacked him in the face. hard. to make the 350 fit, he used the stock chevette radiator, which is about 3/4 of an inch thick, and took the fan off of the engine. have never seen it on the road after i graduated. maybe the thing finally exploded into a fireball, and put itself out of its misery.

the other day i raced a mustang, big mistake....I thought it was a slow one which would be an easy win....Well when i pulled next to it, my 2 10w7's i pushed them loud, my xenons were on, and he knew that I wanted to race him to the next light...well i cranked down my stereo, and he revs his engine...I hear it and Im like ****, I messed with the wrong person today lol.
Anyways the light turns green I forget to take the 'stc' off and that inhibits my full acceleration so he beats me. At the next light I take it off, give it full throttle and we're neck and neck, he's got the lead by a foot(the front end of his car was just infront of mine) and as soon as we hit second gear, by the time I hit second gear, My car slows down accelerating and his takes off.... By the time I get to 60 I think he's at 80, and he's like 50 ft infront of me now lol....he just had a lot more hp then me, although im not sure...prob is a lot lighter of a car.
T6 dissappointed me there... for some reason, as soon as you hit second gear and your using your turbo it seems to die down between like 40-60, then picks up a lot of power between 60-80 mph. it needs like a midcharger for 40-60mph lol....And when I took the STC off, my wheels were squeeling lmao...

......i had a 87 cavalier once before that though....'we' called it the hoopty ride. Once, i tipped a 5 gallon container of diesel fuel over in the truck (don't ask how it got there).......WOW, let me tell ya'll something. There is NO air frshener in the world that can get ride of THAT funk. 'We' used to take it off roading all the time. Which is probably why the shocks blew out and one of the springs broke...of coarse that could have been because of the jump i took it off in the high school parking lot. I got that piece off all four wheels! Rumor has it i could have jumped a small dog! ......sigh, two days later the water pump exploded and i left it on the side of the road. It sat there, on highway 62 downtown Minneapolis, for a week and a half i think before they finnaly impounded it.

I've got ot jump in here myself: 35, married for 11 years (8 & 7 yr old boys) Wife had to deal with htem practicallly alone while attending law school. They were 2 and like 13 months old when I started. My wife is the greatest by the way. AS for cars:
1983 Ford Escort (blew head gasket with 85k on it! 4 speed manual. You could yank on teh steering wheel while driving and the whole car would rock back and forth while holding a steady straight line. Have no idea how that was possible. Really used to freak people out when I did it though and they hadnt been in the car before)
1992 Saturn SL2 (wedding present. Father in law a skilled tradesman at Saturn)
1986 Toyota 4x4 (got from brother when he entered Marine Corp. Had off-road Rugge Trail suspension and 38 inch Super Swampers. I literally could know down small trees witht he way this truck was modfied.
1996 Lexus SC300 (realy liked this car)
1992 Chevy Lumina Z34
1993 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convertible (great summer car that I drove whole famil to Florida in with the top down al the way)
1998 Volvo S70 T5 (manual) looking to make more memories with this fine auto.
Soon to purchase a 2002-2004 BMW M3 convertible with 6-speed manual. Not sure why, but I am hooked.
