Hi All!

I m a 01 s40 1.6 owner. I need your opinions about my car's idle speed problem. I went to dealer for maintenance (60000 km) and they replaced the brake pads, air-oil filters etc... And then, my problem started. I observed that my car is running about 850 rpm as idle speed when the engine is hot. But normally, as precised in owners manuel, my car was running about 750 rpms. When I asked the technicians what is the problem, they connected my car to computer and said that it appears normal!! [:@]But there is a fact that my car is running about 850 rpm as idle speed. So I think that they installed a wrong software or they changed the idle speed parameter of my car. Do you think that it's possible? Or what could be the problem?? Why my car is not running about 850 rpm instead of 750 rpm?? Please help me, say what do you think about, what is the solution??? :(

Sometimes the proper software will change parameters of the car. If they did an upgrade then it might be normal.

According to me, it is not normal the engine goes towards 850 rpm. Because in this case, the car becomes much noisier, the brake pads are damaged more quickly to slow down the car etc. I will make a new visit to the service in a few days. Then is it possible to learn the version of the software via the diagnostic computer screen? Do you know which is the correct version of the software for 01 s40 1.6 (Siemens EMS 2000)? Is it possible to make an adjustment for the idle speed? :(

2 years ago, they maked a mistake for the software and I encountered some other problems for the engine. It was running so noisy, vibrating deadly, the gear arm was vibrating too etc etc... When I declined to take my car in this situation, they checked for the software and said that they was installed the software of 2.0 t4 engine so they re-installed proper software and my car was recovered!! [:@]

So this time, as I dont know the subject exactly, I need the opinions of the experts about the subject please...!!

There is no adjustment for the idle it is all controlled by the computer.

Im not sure which version should be in there. They might have a new one from the last time I saw. And the software keeps changing numbers as well.

I went to volvo specialist again to solve the high idle speed problem. The technicians was not ready to help but I said them that if the car is not repaired I wont accept it and I ll report this to headquarter of VolVo. I said that this kind of speechs could be useful and they started to repair my car. They connected again the computer system and maked somethinkgs on the secreen etc... and they would to remove some parts in the engine but I didn't allowed. So in consequency, the idle speed become again about 750 rpm as before. I m happy now but they caused me spend time....
