Seems to me that everyone and their mom outside of Fla. has Volvo@IKEA meets and never here in the South, so I am taking things into my own hands.... I am looking to see if anyone in Central Fla., South Fla. or anywhere else is intrested in doing this! I have posted on 2 other Volvo sites and seems to be taking off BUT before I contact the IKEA store here in town, I want to see what the consesus is. I believe also there will be a group of VDUB owners also taging along. So if intrested and live in the area or will be driving in, voice you opinion. If it seems like we get a good number online, then I will go foreward with setting it up. :cool: Let the conversation begin!

I've never actually been to one of these events.. what do you usually do there? Just gather and talk about Volvos? I know there are many up in the Central Fl area, so if the word gets out, it could be big! I'm also pretty sure that some of the volvo dealerships in the area such as Volvo of Winter Park wouldnt mind sending a few demo cars over if you contact them..

We usually hang out, share info, drool over cars, pick up ideas, drool some more, grab some swedish meatballs, drool some more and meet new people! :D

This is the first Volvo one for me! I used to be into the Mini Turck sceneand that's all we did. It was always a good time and made new friends with a common thing.

If i'm doing this thing... gotta take the time to Showroom New the trim on the car.. Tampa weather just isn't very agreeable, can never find a time when I can guarantee it isnt going to rain... Want it to be looking tip top! (as much as is possible considering)

I believe that's one of the stipulations of the other IKEA stores that have hosted;that NO ONE work on a vehicle in the parking lot since they don't want to be held responsible for anything that could happen! This is just a meet to hang out, look at other Volvos and Drool over techs dual gold exhaust,etc.......... As of right now, there's a group of guys on turbobricks driving in from Tampa and also from the Melbourne area. So once the store confirms I will post directions and official date!

No exact date untill I speak with Ikea on tuesday, but I am going to push for the last weekend of October. Either that Sat. Or Sunday. Did someone say surprise???? I like surprises!

Its been so busy with school that I bought my 73 Ford Capri in Georgia over 2 months ago and haven't had the time to collect it... No fun shipping it down here, want to make a road trip out of it..

Man, when I started this I didn't quite think how big it would get....... Should be fun for all. As an update, I had a member on turbobricks give the names and numbers of IKEAs Public Relations Managers. I left each a Voice mail with the info, date and how many "potential cars" we are looking on driving up. The store has the IKEA logo and with the parking lot to the right side of that. I have requested that whole area be ours and have enough spots for 200 cars. I am also trying to see if I can get a professional photographer to come out and take some "good pics" to catalogue this... So the ball is on their court! Will update as I get more info... Officially the meet will be NOVEMBER 1st so mark the dat down and make sure everyone gets th day off... I Hope to fill the place up Swedish style!

hey since i will be able to drive my car there i was wondering if there's any way i could caravan with the turbo bricks guys from melbourne (even though mine's non turbo lol), so there would be other volvos on the road on the way there. if anyone could direct me to their conversation about the meet, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Update: I plan on driving upto IKEA tomorrow since I haven't heard from the store. The meet will go on as planned for Nov. 1st! Noon to 3 or 4pm...... If Ikea decides to say no, then I have a backup plan. It involves Aston Martins and Lotuses. That's all for now. Talk amongst yourselves!

Update: Had to do this off my Blackberry, but jsut got done chatting with the store management team. The good thing is that the head of their food service drives a Volvo so he def has our backs. Their management. Team seems to like the whole idea. The also offered their community room if we needed. As of right now they all say go for it, but the store GM is not in today and he has the final say so. So we are waiting for his "go"! In the meantime, the public relations manager is going to call the Conshohocken, PA store, since they have done this a ton of times and see the "logistics" on that many people in the parking lot and in the restaurant............It looks good! Off I go to get some meatballs.

OK.............................(drum roll) This meet is a GO!!! Just got the call from the Ikea store. Ikea Orlando will be hosting the "Volvos at Ikea" on Sunday November 1st,2009. They will be providing us with a sectioned off area for cars to park. We have access to the store. and also their restaurant. They also have a "community room" we can also get, but that has a fee and could also cater certain things or we can just go to the restaurant and order whatever anyone would like.. We will get the specifics on a possible meeting place and "cruising" over as a (huge) group about Noon or so. I still have to plan this out a little better as we have 4 other Volvo/euro boards online that will be part of this. Ikea has asked for a "round about" total as an estimate. We will be starting a list of members so we can give to them and then the "final" list will be given to them 10 days out as a final head count! Ikea seems excited to do this as other stores thru out the US do this and this will be the first time they will host. Let's not ruin this guys! I would like to make this a positive thing for the store, and for the group as if this works out, I might have a bigger meet planned with a theme park......They do have 2 particular "RULES" they did bring up to make sure everyone is aware. Under NO circumstances is there NO ALCOHOL on or around the premises of IKEA and the MALL of MILLENIA and also NO selling of ANYTHING on site! If you promised someone a grill or wheels trade at the meeting point but NO SELLING NADA! Also No burnouts, etc........ I think this will be a cool meet for all. This meet is posted on Volvolution.com, Turbobricks.com, Volvoforums.com and also Swedespede! This is also open to the euro community, but will obviously be centered around the Volvo family. We also have a few groups coming from the Melbourne, Miami and Tampa area so as we get closer I will post more info. I also know that a small group of Vdubs from Melbounre might be heading over...So this should be a fun event for all! If you have any suggestions PM me with Ideas..

Ok,emailed IKEA for 100 parking spots. I took the number we had and added a few just in case we have some people show up! The first few rows will be made available to Volvos only, then from there on we will set up the rest of the euros that show up! See you all in 10 days......

Anyway, never been to one of these things so im still not entirely sure what we do besides oogle other peoples car, but hey! regardless, im there!

There are some folks from VS that are in Tampa that will be rolling together as a group. Not sure if you are a member of that board, but one member is "wmartinlsmith". You can ask him over there. Tech and I will prob. be the firsts one there to get a good parking spot and put one or 2 signs to lead everyone to the parking spots. If you have a folding chair, bring it with you. I know I will. Most of us will just be drooling over other cars and I will just be meeting some folks I chat with regularly but never met. Should be a fun time! I am dedicating Saturday to detail the 850 so she looks purty, but I will have the 850 out probably next to the yellow one if u want to swing by.....

So yesterday my self and another member of a different Volvo board did a site inspection of the IKEA premises. If you are pulling into the store and are looking at it we will be stationed to the right side of the store (east side).. Hopefully we will have 1 or 2 signs directing traffic otherwise be on the lookout for the sea of Volvos. In looking at the spots, we will be parking the first few immediate rows for Volvos and we will then direct all other euros towards the rest of the rows. Once everyone has parked we will have name badges with your screen name on them since some folks only know each other bu those but you are welcome to write your name on there so come over to the sign in table! Once signed in we will be also handing out tickets for the raffle. It will be YOUR responsability to get your raffle ticket as we have a lot of people and I don't feel like chasing everyone down! We will be raffling one item every hour in different ways and then at the end will be giving everything else out! The weather is going to be 84 degrees and 20% chance of rain so it should make for a sunny Florida day... A few of us will be there by 11:15am but expect everyone to roll in about noon!
