Just bought 1996 960 sedan with 75,000 miles. The arrow on the dash started blinking, check engine light came on, the wse lights blink, occasionally the speedo will not work and the trans will sometimes downshift suddenly. I took the car to an auto parts store where they checked the odb2 code, it came up as a code PO500(speed sensor). does anyone have any idea if this sounds like the speed sensor and if so where is it located and is it possible to change it yourself? </P>
Thanks.</P>

I just had the sensor on the side of the transmission replaced by my mechanic on our 1995 850 sedan. The exact symptom was occuring on this vehicle as you are experiencing: blinking arrow indicating problem with transmission shifting, downshifting to winter mode etc. This also triggers the check engine light. This sensor is located on the side of the transmission and costs approximately $110, then add labor. I have only driven the vehicle for a little over a day after the replacement, but so far so good.</P>

Thank you for the feedback. I also had the sensor replaced and everything was fine for about a week, and then the same thing happened again(Blinking arrow, check engine light and the WSE lights blink). Does anyone know what could be causing the speed sensor malfunction? Please help. I just thought of something else, I'm not sure if it's related but the FM on my radio does not work(just static), AM works fine along with the CD and tape. Is there any connection in the wiring that could connect the two problems, maybe a short in the radio(hopefully not too silly an inquiry)?<edited><editID>hoochbob</editID><editDate>38159.7255439815</editDate></edited>
