Hi,

I have a 1998 V70 model V70XCo Wagon. It has 115,000mi. It was not driven for months this winter and when I took it for a ride I heard a whinning noise under the car. I took it to my mechanic, he said it was my driveshaft replacement, a cost of $922.00 plus labor. He said the center bearing was making the noise and Volvo does not sell bearing so I wauld have to buy a whole new shaft.

I drove for a while and the noise went away. I drove it today and very little noise heard. It might just need to be driven for a while to get grease to the lube bearing. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone had to replace a Driveshaft because of a whinning noise? If you have or know any info on this please let me know. I am not going to replace it until it gets bad. I would also like to know were I might buy one that would be better than dealer price.

THANK YOU,

WALTER:eek:

I have replaced the driveshaft twice. Last time the price was around $700 total - labor included. Ridiculous, I know, but much better than the price quoted to you, although the $992 plus labor is probably the book price. I have seen a reference somewhere to getting just the bearing replaced at an independent shop. Must be possible. I would do most anything rather than replace the entire driveshaft.

Hi Jay,

How many miles were on car when you replaced driveshift? How many miles till you had to replace it again? Were they used or new? If I have to replace mine I will try to get someone to replace the middle bearing.

THANK YOU

WALTER
