vibration and pulsation during idle
I have a 2006 S60 with 1000 miles. During idle the engine vibrates and makes a low level pulsating "thump." Any thoughts on this before I take it to the dealership? My initial thought is that the engine is getting either too much or too little gas during idle, but that's just a guess.
The dealer has absolutely no clue and I'm not surprised. Actually, they're trying to tell me that it's normal. I spoke with the local independent specialist who confirmed that it's definitely not normal. I'm wondering if it could be a motor mount issue. If so, it could also explain why the center console crackles and pops when I hit the gas and brake. If the the problem is a motor mount, would that also cause a loss of fuel economy at lower speeds (i.e. when coming off of a dead stop). Any thoughts?
edited to add- the vibration and thumping is felt through the steering wheel and in the seat.
