I hope I could find some answers in this forum, so please help me.
I’m new to Volvo. I have bought a Volvo v40 1.8 from 2003 about 2 months ago. The car has almost rounded 100.000 kilometres. Everything works perfectly until the last few days. The fan to front of the car is running at incredible high speed when the A/C is on. You can hear and feel the vibration from the fan inside the car. So I checked the coolant in the expansion tank. The level of the coolant is in the middle of its range. The motor’s temperature is normal.

Could somebody tell me what it’s wrong with my car?

Possible bad coolant temp sensor/Thermostat.

The condensor fan on these models is obnoxiously loud. They do push more air than any OEM fan I have come in contact with. The vibration may be due to a missing piece of fanblade or a loose fan. Check the fan assy mounting points too.

In this 2 months I've never heard or feelt the vibration from the fan inside the car.
But in the last few days it sounds like an aeroplane. I will call my dealer.

Is that possible to turn down the fan speed? :eek:

No it is not.

So the fan has only 1 speed and it turns on and off.
The speed is not depend on the motor's temperatur?

No the Fan has Different speeds. But it takes much input to decide which speed it runs at.

If the sensor See's it is getting hot it kicks it into high speed.

The Fan always runs when the A/C is on.

If the fan is always running on High when the car is on Most likely the Coolant temp sensor bad.

Hello

Finally I got my car fixed. The mechanic told me that the fan was defected.
I got a new fan replaced. Now I can drive my car without thinking that I'm flying an aeroplan :)
