Hi Everyone,
On 2000 V70 with manual transmission, RPM drops to near 500 when the car is at speeds below 15-20 MPH and the gear is in neutral. Once the car comes to a COMPLETE stop ( but not before), the RPM reverts back to normal ~850. Also if the car speed is above 20, the RPM is normal. This problem is worse duirng colder weather.
Any ideas on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Have you had the throttle body cleaned lately? If not try having it cleaned and see what happens. The throttle body are very touchy.

Hello Tech,
Thanks very much for your reply.
Is this something that I should be able to do myself? I am reasonably adept but not a mechanic. Aslo, would any of the commercial cleaners like STP or other fuel injector cleaners that one puts in the gas tank help?
I didn't get if your car is a turbo or nonturbo. If it is non turbo it will be easy for you to remove the throttle body and clean. You will have to get a gasket first.I think they are about $8.00 to 10.00.The additives are good for cleaning the injectors which should be done about every 15k.If it is turbo it is a little harder it is mounted under the intake manifold harder to get to.

Hello,
Thanks very much again for your quick and kind reply. The car I have is not turbo charged.
What puzzles me is that RPM is perfectly OK when the car is stationary. The problems comes only when the car is at low speeds ( between 5-20 mph) and in neutral. If the throttle body was not clean, would it not have an effect on the idle of the car when stationary? Thanks again for your help.
The throttle bodys are electronically controlled they are hard to explain problems with them.
