Hello guys !

I have a "slight" problem with my 2000 V40 1.6 16V. I have a nasty smell from the exhaust pipe (something mettalic-like), and I have a very poor gas mileage (around 16L/100 in town driving and around 7-8L/100 on the highway, running at 90km/h).

I suspect one of the O2 sensors going bad or the catalytic converter, because I've changed the spark plugs, I have no vacuum or gas leaks, I've changed the oil and the oil filter and the air filter recently (2000km ago).

The OBD2 readings show no DTC's, but the voltage on the O2 sensors is the same for both (1.25V at idle). Didn't watch for them changing value when I press the throttle though...

Does anyone know what would be the normal value for O2 sensor voltage ? The OBD2 reading, not the multimeter measurement by back wire probing !!!

The O2 sensor should sweep at idle.

In which way should it sweep ? In the VADIS manual I see it must have a voltage between 0V (LEAN) and 5V (RICH). I don't have an oscilloscope and my only measuring way is from the OBD2 readings through DigiMoto (ELMScan, OBD2Spy, etc)...

It will sweep fast from 0-5 volts it is usually really fast.
Sometimes you can backprobe the o2 sensor and get the readings.

I noticed some things connecting the OBD2 reader yesterday again...

1). The Throttle Pedal Sensor indicates 12.2% throttle, although the throttle isn't pressed at all
2). The O2 Sensor sweeps up and down, so it's ok...
3). Calculated Engine load at idle is 18-20%
4). When running at 60km/h (indicated by dashboard), the OBD2 software (all of them) reads 55km/h... Could be this because of the fact that in Romania, recommended tyres for my car are 195/55/15 but on tirerack.com (reference site for me) and on other foreign state sites I found them to be 195/60/15 ? I bought new 195/60/15 tyres because that was the FOREIGN recommendation (which I trust best).
BUT... When I tested my car prior to buying, it had also 195/60/15 tyres (but pretty well worn) and the service men told me that at 100km/h I had only a 2% error on the dashboard (it indicated 100km/h, but the real speed was 98km/h). WHAT GIVES ?! Could be the ECU calibrated for 195/55/15 and the dashboard to show the "raw" value multiplied ?

The TPS might be bad showing 12.2% at idle.

It could very well be from the tires that the speedo is off.

Ok, I'll look for the TPS and I'll see if it can be adjusted. As for the tyres, why does the ECU speedometer report a lower speed than the needle one ? Shouldn't they be the same ? After all, as far as I know from my mechanical knowledge, the speedometer is linked to the gearbox, so tyres shouldn't influence it.

The cars uses 3 sensors for the refrence.
The engine speed sensor.
The transmission speed sensor.
The abs sensors.(This one will make it read different.)
