I have a '99 S70 and recently my service light started coming on only for a first few minutes after I start the car, then it shuts off. I called dealership and they say it is just a reminder but in order to reset it I would have to come to them because they have the tools. Does anyone know if this can be done without going to stealership, are there any reset buttons or anyhing?

Have you tried doing a search on this site for instructions?

Turn the key to position 1 push and hold the trip reset button while holding turn key to position 2 and watch for the service light to flash 3 times then release the trip reset button and it should be reset. To make sure turn key off then start the car and make sure the light is off. Good luck

Tried it, it flashed 6 times and it still stays on. My friend hooked it up to an obd2 and it's got pending code-p0532 "A/C Refrigerant Pressure Sensor A Circuit Low Input". Is this common?

Release it after the thrid flash or it will not reset.Clear the a/c code and see if it comes back.It could be a couple of diffrent things. But the fault might not be present at this time.So clear the code and see what happens.

Still can't get it to flash three times. Our ignition assembly no longer "clicks" at different positions, so I suspect I am not getting position 1 quite right. Didn't replace the ignition assembly for 500 some odd dollars, I told my girlfreind not to hand a bunch of stuff off her key chain[:@]. I reread the above method, and I'll try it til I get it right...anyone else had ignition switch problems?

It should only be the electrical part of the switch that is bad.Should only take you about 20 to 30 min to replace.

Electrically, it works fine. Its the mechanical "clicks" that do not give you a positive feel for what position the key is in. Use to have a positive stop at the three different positions.

I understand that the feeling you are talking about it is built into the electrical part of the switch.

Will this work for the 1998 S70 as well?

tech

No it will not work for the 98 S70 they need a service light reset tool to clear the light.

I did a search online for a Service Light Reset Tool for the 1998 Volvo S70 and found the 69007 - EXPERT QUALITY SERVIC INDICATOR TOOL - VOLVO from a Draper Tools (a UK manufacturer). This web site has the info and a link to the manual: http://www.drapertools.com/draper/Templates/draper/MainScreen.asp Do a search for Volvo and it will take you to the Reset Tool.

Do you think that this would work? There are several UK companies that are selling this tool. With the current conversion rate, it is approx $60 plus shipping. I contacted several companies to get a shipping quote.

Yes that will work and is for a very good price.I would buy it and then if you ever sell your car then you can sell the tool and make some of your money back.

I just ordered a Service Light Reminder Reset Tool for my 1998 Volvo S70 for about $53 (£28.04). The price is dependent on the exchange rate. If anyone is interested here is the tool info: 69007 - DRAPER EXPERT QUALITY SERVIC INDICATOR TOOL - VOLVO. I ordered the tool from Justoffbase Tools UK http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/s.nl/sc.9/category.146/it.A/id.15747/.f You will need to e-mail them prior to your order if you need shipping to the U.S. They (Tina) will provide you with instructions to e-mail them again once you place the order so that they may amend your order accordingly (charge you the correct shipping rate). They have two shipping choices:

- £9.00 (approx $17) no insurance or guarantee of delivery
- £24.89 (approx $47) by EXPD courier

I chose to be a risk taker and pay the cheaper shipping. I will post again once I receive the tool.

The DRAPER Service Light Reset Tool just arrived today. Perfect timing as I just changed the oil. I followed the instructions and 20 seconds later the light is now reset. The tool also is smaller than I thought it would be. It is about the size of a garage door opener. Now I can use the Service Light Reminder for its intended purpose, instead of cursing Volvo for this type of design when I do my own oil change.

I have a 98 S70 and this doesn't seem to work. Is there something different on the 1998 S70?

The 1998's you need a reset tool to reset the light.

What about the 1997 S70 T5, do I also need the service light reset tool to fix it or just use the trip reset method?

P.S. what else can the service light reset tool can do?
Thanks!

You will need to the tool.
Most service light reset toosl will only reset the light.

No such thing as a 97 S70 (in the U.S. anyway). However, as TECH notes you need the reset tool for a 97 850 as well.

i tried this on my 98 s70 t5 and no cherry. . .the light does not flash ,nor does it reset. does this not work on 98's? is it perhaps because i've recently reset my codes? Is there another way to do this on 98's? thanks in advance

Do you have to pay over $100.00 for the tool just to reset the light ??? If so i'll just take it to the Dr. in Huntington Beach again for my next service...

If the service light coming on for about a minute every time you start the car bothers you that much, take the bulb out. That's what I did on my 97 when I had the instrument cluster out to repair the oddometer. Now it will never come on again.

No the light doesn't bother me that much, i was just wondering. Thanks for the reply...

I would not take the dash apart just to remove the bulb either. My light comes on in my 98 and I don't even notice it any more. If I had the dash apart for some other reason I would remove the bulb though like I did on the 97.

sooooo...anything newer than a 98 would not need this special tool to reset?

I'm thinking seriously about pulling the bulb out myself. I keep paper logs for all service I do anyways. I have 1998, and the reset trick does not work.

I have a 2000 S70 GLT SE and the Ser-vice light comes on during the initial start and shortly after it goes off.

The odometer reset button does it say reset below the info knob? Or is the reset button on the visual display of the speedometer across from the H and M buttons?

I tried using both buttons and the SER-VICE light doesn't blink at all. Using the I and II positions.
