I have notice that when I come to a stop in my volvo 2000 s70 se the rpm's drop below 1000 then comes back up to right under 1000 rpm's (normal rpm)[sm=helpout.gif]. Is that normal or is there a problem brewing? I also sometimes feel some pulsating in my pedal when braking. I had the front brakes replaced about 6 months ago at the dealer. Do I need to have the discs turned??

For the idle problem you can try cleaning the throttle body.The throttle body's are very picky on the 99 and up cars because they are electronicly controlled.Then for the brakes the rotors are most likely warped but if they are Volvo rotors do not have them cut!!!! Volvo rotors can not me cut they have a special cut on them from the factory.If you cut them the will make funny squeeking noises and warp twice as fast.

If it is non turbo follow the hose from the air filter assy to the motor that is the throttle body.If it is turbo the throttle is under the intake manifold.

Ok I have the throttle body off (hose) and there is nothing in it. Is there something else I can check or do I need to clean the inside of the hose with something?

The throttle body is a big rectangle aliminum peice that screws to the intake with 4 10mm screws.You should use carb cleaner to clean the throttle body.

Thanks, by the way can I just spray the cleaner into the throttle body and run the engine for a few minutes or is it necessary to take the entire throttle body off? Also in regards to the pulsating in my pedal when I brake the front brakes and rotors replaced on 5/26/04 by the dealorship. Do I need to have the discs turned or replaced?

I would recomend removing the throttle body to clean it.But you will have to buy a new gasket.As far as the brakes if you feel the pulsating in the brake pedal it is the rear that are warped.If you feel it in the steering wheel it is the front that are warped.I don't reccomend turning the rotors you will have more problems if you have them turned.I reccomend replacing them.

Hey I just sprayed into the opening of the throttle body real good and it took care of the problem...thanks. I am getting ready to do a tuneup soon and was wondering where the firetrap (I believe that's the name) is...I was told that I need to check that along with changing plugs, air filter, fuel filter (where is the fuel filter?) oil, and oil filter. Is there anything else that should be checked?? I appreciate all your help...thanks

On your car the flame trap is not serviceable.You can check the vaccum elbows good and make sure there is none that are clogged.The fuel filter is on the passenger side by the R/R tire under the car.I would also reccomend replacing the coolant if it hasn't been replaced within the last 30,000 miles.Other than that just check your brakes and make sure the pads are ok.

Where is the flame trap and the vaccum elbows ?

There is a vent box on the front of the engine under the intake.It is a black box about 10 inches tall by about 8 inches wide.Not 100% sure about exact mesurments.Find the box and follow lines and check at elbows and connections.
