Hello Group,

Recently I replaced the rear window wiper with a V40 OEM blade from the local Volvo repair shop.

I clicked the new wiper into the arm no problem and drove off.

Since then, the wiper lifts off and does not wipe the rear window during a portion of its stroke:

From 0 to 45 degrees OK From 45 to 135 degrees lifts off and does not wipe From 135 degrees to 180 OKThe above behavior leaves a pie slice or wedge shaped pattern in the middle of the window............

The wiper blade is symmetrical. The wiper arm is not loose. The wiper arm has a plastic U-shape structure to it, it is not the all metal version.

Anyone out there with any insights ?

Thanks,

UJ

Try bending the arm a little to make it hit the window.

Yes I have this exact problem too. I'm going to try to bend the arm. It is mostly plastic, but the lower portion is metal, so I'll try to bend it in a Vise a little bit. It is really maddening. A new wiper arm is $38 from Volvo, but I don't want to spend the $$ unless I'm sure it will actually fix the problem. I'm afraid I'll just end up bending the new wiper arm to make it work!!!

Ok so I was able to fix it. Bending the bottom metal part of the arm is out of the question b/c it's really heavy steel. What I did was removed the spring and used a file to grind down the plastic part of the arm where the limit stop for the spring-arm travel is. This allows the spring to pull further than before, so that the arm can keep pressure on the window glass at the top position.

Hope this helps.

Nick.

It's not the wiper arm. It is the bolt coming out of the glass. It is weak and bends easely, light pressure will bend it back. Good luck!!!

most of the time we replace the arm... I bend and broke an arm before in the bottom... try lube the spring... if still not working get a new arm

I had this problem it was the wiper blade catching on the wiper arm!!! Took me ages to spot it. It was just catching where the fitting apperture on the blade ends. hope this helps.
