XC70: Why do P2 and 3Gen share same forum?
Not much info out there on the 3Gen forums around the web...even knowing they are approaching 10 years old. Since the P2 XC70 and the 3Gen XC70 have very little in common...why share the forum and make it harder for 3Gen'ers to find content?
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you're referring to the P3, probably because whoever owns the forums isn't aware there is a difference. The S60 forum isn't split up between P2 and P3. The C70 forum isn't split up between the 800 and P1. The S40 forum isn't split up between the X40 Nedcar and the P1. The XC90 forum isn't split up between the P2 and the P5.

If you note the V70 as well as the SC70 forums are have unique subforms for the first and second generations cars...
...it must just be laziness.
I see this on other forums that seem to lump Vanagon and Eurovans in the same category and those two rides have about as much in common as a hippo and a elephant!
You'd think an enthusiast site would be all over this stuff!

I suppose a request could be sent to the IB community manager but to what end? Most posts wind up specifying common problems that span many models or include the model and year in question. There's also an argument to be made for less boards not more here. There's plenty of posts that are not in the best board (like the posts for car issues in the forum issues board) but this is a very active forum (try getting a technical question answered on a VW forum...) so a high percentage of posts get some useful responses.

Having combined unlike vehicles in the same forums terrible and although having more eyes in the forum is great it often leads to to much guessing across platforms and no real world experience.
American cars are the worst. I had a 2008 Suburban in a forum that covered all years (most do) and having a guy comment that had a 1982 which shares nothing but a name in mine.

cc - my point was not about how best to reorg the boards - I was pointing out how most posters don't differentiate to the level ES6T (a Volvo tech and enthusiast) or you do. I'm thinking it would also be a major effort to reorg the database for past posts - So any changes would be forward looking - as an example separating the S40 board into Gen1 and Gen2 makes total sense to me as would grouping the S40 gen 1s with the V40s - but the web site owners would have the challenge on how to implement such changes.
