Default Is Car Alarm Risky With Old Wiring?

I have an old 1989 Volvo DL 240. I want to get an alarm for it, but I am worried. Since the wiring is old, can having an alarm installed in it take a risk on creating shorts/electric problems that can never be found?

I will say that if you find a reputable place for an alarm and the techs have a background in wiring then you should be golden! Make sure you ask questions when you go to whereever it is you are looking to get the alarm. Something I did when I was into car stereos and wanted to get a "system" installed, I always asked if I could go to the back area and check some of their current installs. Most good places will let you see what their current work is in place. Check their wiring job too. Look for clean splices and saudering. If you see wiring with too much electrical tape maybe think twice. I think installers with shotty work is what creates electrical problems and shorts!
