Paint Cracked like Eggshell?
I just notice that my black paint has a couple smallish spots that look like the paint is cracked like an eggshell, spidering, etc. Moereover, the pattern almost looks like something splashed on it.
The car was Zaino'd and then I used some Z-6 and then Z-8 right away. I'm hoping that was it and maybe the original Zaino cracked or something. If not, then my paint might be hosed there. Haven't tried polishing yet. I assume the black cars don't have a 2-part paint system, only clearcoat mixed in with the black? If so, then can I get away with more aggressive compounding if need be?

Here's a photo of the area. Looks much worse under the spot light than it really is. With some good wax, it almost disappears until you get about a foot away, then you can see the crazing. I still think it's egg damage. You can see the semi-circular pits to the left of the "spill". I think that's where the egg hit and the shell dug in, then the innards sprayed out into the pattern you see.
I just bought this car, so I have no idea if that's it or not. The area must have been hidden well with wax/sealant as I didn't even notice it while in purchase mode! Didn't come out until I washed the car and polished with Menzerna the first time.

RE: Paint Cracked like Eggshell?
Greetings from Vermont.
I wonder how it got hit by an egg.
Anyway, before you give it a try with orbital polisher, try hand polishing. I generally use the following steps:
1. Polishing compound
2. Rubbing compound
3. Professional detailer/body shop
Turtle Wax used to sell excellent colour-specific polishing compounds, but they took them off the shelf, except for certain colours.
If the damage is down to the bare metal, you might need to have a professional take care of it.
Good luck,
JPN
