Hey all. I have a 2004 XC70 and I'm wondering if you all use your geartronic transmission vs the automatic. I looked around quite a bit and didn't see this discussion, but if it's old hat please don't hesitate to point me to a thread on it, I'm new here. I use the geartronic a lot in good weather and I like it, it's fun to drive that way. I have some questions though. I imagine it cuts down on brake usage thereby prolonging your brakes, is this true? I definitely don't have to break as much as I down shift coming to a stop sign etc. Also, do you think the geartronic saves on gas or does it use more? One other thing, do you have to come to a complete stop before putting it into first (i know it goes to first automatically if you come to a complete stop) or can you put it in first while going 2-5mph or so? Also, I've never done it, but I heard if you redline it will change gears automatically, is that true? Would that be bad for the car to do that? As long as you don't hit the red line is that OK for the engine or should you try to keep it under 4-5krpm? Thanks for any advice.
