To keep or let go ?

To keep or let go ?
I've had a 2005 V-50 T5 AWD for about 4 years now - it has been an absolute love-hate relationship - love the car, hate the constant expensive repairs - and am at a point where the transmission and exhaust manifold gasket need to be fixed.
The car has 175 K miles. My mechanic is saying to get rid of the car because of this - Is he just not wanting to work on the car, or is 175k actually too high for a ……. Volvo ?
I have a quote of $1800 to install an used tranny with a lifetime parts/labor warranty - not sure about the manifold gasket. (That is assuming it needs a complete tranny replacement.)
AWD system is all replaced, brakes, tires, one bearing in front…. it has been an expensive car - much more so than other cars I've had.
Any guidance here? Is it just going to continue to be a bottomless pit?
