Lois - hopefully you are still checking in!
1st - Look, 99.999 something % of all roads in the US (and elsewhere) haven't changed in years. I have an old(over 12 years) magellan unit in a truck I seldom use , that son-of-a-gun still works around Dallas just fine!
2nd - I have kids that lose things. Go by Big Lots (maybe others) and see what they have. I did. I've bought 3 different units there (50-60 bucks-ish) that work great. I think they were all still 'upgradeble' to new maps for that matter.
