Default Protection Packages....are they worth it

Taking delivery of a new XC 70 later this week and was wondering if the stonesheild, paint protection, leather and carpet protection is worth the price...they are quoting $988 for all of the above. I live in Alberta and do a fair bit of winter driving. Thanks in advance

To the dealer, definitely. Paint protection is wax. Leather protection comes from a bottle and costs < $20.00. Carpet protection comes from a spray can of Scotchgard and costs <$10.00. Stoneshield? Is that a molded plastic thing to put on the front of the car which works by altering the slipstream? Or some sort of magic potion that deflects stones and heals all chips? Either way, what you're being offered is way overpriced. If its mudflaps, check the Volvo catalogue for pricing.

Go to McNeil.com and see what it costs for real rubber floor and trunk mats. Those are a good investment. And cost nowhere near $1000.00. This $1000 puts about $900 in the dealer's pocket as pure profit. Most of the remaining $100 goes towards commission, too.

BTW, a sales technique is this: make you sign that you DON'T want them (psychologically harder to do than simply saying 'no'); and telling you they're so important, the dealer will knock 30% off the price which makes you think you're getting something. Still not worth it. MAKE SURE THEY DON'T "INSTALL" THESE OVERPRICED RIPOFFS BEFORE DELIVERY OF THE CAR. MAKE SURE THE DEALER KNOWS RIGHT NOW YOU
WON'T TAKE THE CAR IF THIS PACKAGE IS INSTALLED.

One possible exception. These include thorough "detailing" of interior and exterior annually AND you plan to keep the car > 7 years. And don't feel like doing the work yourself. You're simply prepaying for car detailing and rolling its cost into your monthly payment. Probably not a good deal, but justifiable.

HELL NOOOOO.

Sorry did i say that out loud ?

All the things they offer can be had far cheaper privately.
And as Malaka said;
paint protection is just a sealant - $30 + an hour to wipe on.
fabric is scotch guard - $20 a tin
and so on.

I've done work in and around car yards.
These 'packages' are normally done by an outside company.
Actuall example, full package would be, tinting, paint, fabric and under body 'protection'.
cust pays 1,000, car yard pays 300, freinds of the company pay 100.
And at 100 he's still making profit......
