Rough Idle of 1991 Volvo 240

I just purchased a 1991 Volvo 240 wagon with 145,000 miles. I purchased the car from a body shop that had aquired the car for settlement of an unpaid bill. The car is very clean and runs nice. The problem I am having is it hard to start, takes 3 to 4 attempts, and the car idles rough at stops. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I really like the car and want to keep it for awhile, it is very utilitarian and will serve my purpose as a good second car.
