Default 2002 Volvo V40 Timing belt question

I own a 2002 Volvo V40 1.8. I had the timing belt replaced recently, the water pump as well as the tensioner were also changed. The car works perfectly, however, I heard from a car mechanic that in case of 1998-2002 Volvo cars the camshaft and valve camshaft gears must also be replaced at each timing belt change as their running surface is made of plastic and they wear out. Is this true?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

No. Check your owners manual, it will tell you what needs to be replaced.
