Just got 2000 S40.....question about steering wheel/horn
Hi everyone. I recently bought a 2000 silver S40 from a good friend and am happy with the car except for one thing. The horn.
Being from NJ I admit that I like to use my horn at other drivers (when they do dumb things haha). Anyway, everytime I try to use it I have to push it really hard and in just the right place or it won't work. There have already been a few times where someone was about to turn INTO ME and I tried to honk but it didn't work right away.
So I was wondering, do all Volvo cars use the same style steering wheel/airbag/horn set up? Is there anyway to legally and safely swap out my steering wheel and put in another OEM wheel with a different horn set up (preferably one with the horn in the center (with an airbag)) so I can use it easier? I don't want to do anything unless I'm sure it will fit my car perfectly and it won't compromise my car in anyway. I just want to have a different set up for my horn if at all possible.
Anyone else feel the same way and have any advice? Thanks in advance

RE: Just got 2000 S40.....question about steering wheel/horn
it probably would not be a problem to swap out the wheel since it seems most volvo wheels are essentially the same. maybe to be safe, try putting another s40 wheel on there. other than making sure it will work the biggest problem will be getting it off and then putting the new one on.

I do believe the air bags are bolted on by 2 torx 30 screws from the back of the steering wheel.I know on the other models S70,850, etc you have to tighten the right side screw first then the left or you will have problems with the horn. You can try that and see if it helps.
