What did you do to your car today?

Took my front bumper off of my yellow t-5r and totally sanded it down. In one of its previous lives someone obviously just sprayed the front bumper and didn't take the time to properly sand and prep it. It took me 2 days and probably about 9 hours. I'll post a picture tomorrow for you of it fully sanded.
If weather permits I will be painting it in the morning!!

V70 cargo cover
After years of looking for a Cargo Cover for my 2000 V70, I Bought one new and in my opinion for a really great price. I installed it last night after work took one hour start to finish and looks great.
Now I have somewhere to place aka hide my tool and packages from prying eyes

After figuring out what my engine serial number was, I decided to finally price out a timing belt kit w/water pump.
Just my luck....earlier serial number = more expensive kit. Le sigh. I guess a couple hundred bucks spent now is way better than a couple grand spent down the road should something catastrophic happen.

cabin filter
Swapped out cabin air filter. Air conditioning suddenly started smelling foul. First time, so I did a web search for the location. This yielded 3 different:
* under the bonnet, at the back/passenger side
* under the glove box inserted horizontally toward the driver side
* under the glove box inserted upward
Turned out to be the last one (for my V70 XC 2001).
One of the videos showed the access panel falling away in the fellow’s hand after pulling out the 2nd bolt. I knew that was likely to prove special effects for me. Sure enough, extracting the panel was the hard part of the operation. Pull up, down, left, right, jiggle, bend, force, twist—anything short of bust. The mating with the dorsal panel, which I thought might be the key turned out to be a hoax. The key was at the other end.
Old filter was so dirty that leaf debris was falling out as I extracted it.
Strangely, the bolt attaching the panel at the outer/door end was missing, and I found out why when I inserted one and it contacted with thin air. Definitely not the only point where bolts have been superseded in favour of ill-fitting parts and crossed fingers.
When I was checking the first location, the cowling could only be lifted after detaching one of those proprietary Volvo plastic bolts. Once I punched out the core piece of the bolt, it went flying, becoming a sacrifice to the God of Mechanistics. Hate those damned things.

Went to pull-a-part and got 2 hood shocks. Also grabbed the CD changer from the trunk. Couldn't get the m-bus cable as someone had destroyed the dash and cut everything. I just ordered one for it. found the power supply plug and hooked it up. It cycled thru the discs so that's a good sign.

Ordered a set of Aries 3D floor liners for my XC90 at 4 Wheel Online. I know Weathertech is a popular option but I heard that Aries has a stiffer sidewalls.

Repaired the headlight washer on our 2005 XC90. That was a bit of a trick! The spring on the assembly is so strong, that every time I tried to let it back in after assembling, it would break again. Finally figured out a way to do it: turn on the washers until it opens itself and it closes itself gently. Viola!
