If I rebuild my 96 850 with 215K what are the chances that the cylinders will need to be bored? I was hoping to get away with honing to de-glaze only.
The car runs and sounds good but burns oil. the crank pressure is elevated and the Pcv vent seems to still be working, I pulled the hose off the flame trap holder gases were coming out. No signs of excessive oil leaking.
Thanks

That's something you won't know until you open 'er up. You might have to get it rebored, or a simple honing could do the trick. Either way, wait before you get new piston rings because you might have to get over sized rings depending on how much they bore out or hone it.
What I mean is.... does anyone who has taken one or more of these engines apart with similar miles and has measured the bore have any info about the how the cylinders wear?
I've rebuilt diesels that typically go twice as far before the cylinders need work and wonder if this will be any diffferent.
Also, I drive the car every day and need to try to do this job in one week, so I'm trying to get all of the parts ahead of time so I'm ready to go.
I know what your saying. What I'm telling you is I've seen pictures of rebuilds on cars with similar miles where all the cylinders had to be bored and I've seen cylinders where the cross hatching from the original hone is still there. It all depends. You can't get all of the parts ahead of time because you won't be fully certain if your going to need standard rings or oversized rings, you may need oversized bearings, and you won't know that until you open it up.
