Keyless Entry Failed SOLVED!
1997 960 Wagon
A couple of years ago, I lost use of my keyless entry. Both remotes did nothing, changed batteries, checked fuses all good. Everything worked except the remote.
Maybe I am inventing the wheel again but, I came across this tidbit, and it worked. Apparently you have to reprogram the receiver module. This is done by:
1.Turning the key to position I or II five (5) times in ten (10) seconds.
2. Then leaving the ignition on (not started) Press either LOCK or UNLOCK on the REMOTE within thirty (30) seconds.
3. Turn ignition off.
It worked for me, I was truly amazed!!!
I hope this helps.

That's the trouble I'm having with my remote entry, on my '95 850SE Wagon.
My remote has only 1 button - when you exit the car and press the button, the car locks and the immobilizer engages. However, when you press the button again, the immobilizer dis-engages; but the car does not unlock.
Lock/unlock with the key works fine. So weird.
I'm wondering if the remote that came with my car is actually an aftermarket copy, and not the genuine unit.
EDIT: In an answer to my own question - no, that remote is not a genuine Volvo unit. So I've no reason to trust that it's working correctly... Time to track down some REAL Volvo ones!

One day I started to drive the car with the key not fully in the "on" position. I noticed that the tach & speedometer were not registering. I barely wiggled the key in the ignition and then everything was OK. The check engine light came on and to this day, I can't get the check engine liht off.
Thanks,
Jim
