240 not starting

Well, assuming your diagnostic tools are at a minimum...do this. 1. With a helper trying to start the car, peek down the oil fill neck and see if the camshaft is turning. If not, your cam belt is broken. 2. After turning it over check the plugs to see whether they're wet or dry...that will tell you if you have fuel. If the plugs are dry, then there's a good chance the issue is fuel related. So...what year is your 240? They were discontinued after the 93 model.

Well, your Dad was right! The next thing to do is remove the fuel feed hose from the back of the under car pump...that will tell you if your intank lift pump is working. Are you listening to see if the under car runs for a moment when you turn the key? To listen to the intank pump, you can use a length of hose and use it as a stethoscope. If neither pump runs, then odds are you either have a blown fuse or your fuel pump relay is bad.

One thing to bear in mind, if the hall effect sensor does not work, the fuel pumps will not work either. At least in my LH2.2 car the pulsing signal of the hall effect also gives the go for the fuel injection computer. I would pull off the fuel pump relay cover and with the key in the run position, close the relay contacts and see if the fuel pumps run. You can also bench test the pumps with a 12v source. Basically my point is make sure they they don't work before you replace them. It still could be a simple fuel pump failure.
