Default 1990 240 manual gear selector linkage problem

Greetings all,

I have a problem with my 1990 240 sedan, manual transmission (5 speeds). For some reason, the gear selector has become really "loose". I mean, it's always been loose, not to the point of falling back to neutral, but now, I have to hold it in the air while driving. From my knowledge of previous cars, I suspect some kind of linkage that holds the whole selector in place, but I'm not sure. Also, before dismantling the whole thing, I'd rather have your opinions.

Does someone have an idea for this? Also, does someone know the exact name of the faulty mechanism so I can make a few searches on the web or even ebay to order the parts?

Many thanks, as usual, in advance.

Paul

Haven't really messed with to many of them.

Did you climb under and look at it?

There are nylon parts that surround the shifter "ball" if these break you get a loose shifter. I cannot remember where I ordered mine from.
