Default 1990 DL 240 Wagon

I have an automatic transmission, and the shifter has an extreme amount of play in it (front to rear). The interlock to prevent accidental movement to reverse is intact. Anyone ever expierence this? If so what is the best plan of attack. Also is the PRN . . . selection lighted?

Thanks in advance

I had a '89 wagon that had a similar problem. I never really did anything to fix it but when I recently removed the transmission I found the linkages that connect to the transmission were pretty worn. Don't really know how you might tighten them up.

Also, yes there is supposed to be a light in the shifter that illuminates the gear you are in. I believe this light only comes on if the lights are turned on.

Sounds like worn bushings in the linkage.

There is a panel light in the gear selector.

yea it's just loose linkage. if you look below the car at the tranny it is pretty easy to locate. as long as it is still shifting normally it isn't anything to worry about though.

I have seen on a few 240's have had the 3 screws holding the shifter to the bucket come loose or fall out.

The screws go into the assembly from under the car.
