Default 1982 240 Clutch

Bought a 1982 244 GL B23E with 181,000 km's a couple of months ago. I have a question regarding the clutch.
The clutch engauged and disengauged when the pedal was almost at the top. That is, push the pedal in 3 to 4 inches and the car would free wheel; let the pedal out 3 to 4 inches to engauge and drive the car.
I thought this a little strange, but just happy to drive a stick again, leaving the 99' S70 Automatic to my wife.
Last night while hard driving I noticed a little shudder while dumping into first gear, and then going into 2nd gear I would throw out the pedal and it would take a little while to engauge; like in was slipping.
Is this an adjustment thing or should I dump a clutch kit in (haven't done a clutch since my 65' 544)
The 240 model is a new animal to me, but I love it!!!! Thanks for all the great advice Mike

There is adjustment at the transmission.
Check it good and see if the adjuster slipped into the bushing.

if adjustment doesn't get it. when you go to remove the transmission after you get everything disconnected and the shift lever removed you turn the transmission 90 degrees to get enough clearance to remove.
