Default 86fuel Injected worries

I recently broke down on a freeway from Newcastle to Sydney(Australia) almost 2 weeks ago.The mechanic hasn't been able to fix the car. It starts OK and it will rev to a point if you feather the accelerator. As soon as you select drive(it is auto) and touch accelerator it stalls. The mechanic has tried air mass meter/fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator and is now looking at the computer(fuel). Any suggestions?

Yes that sounds like a MAF sensor. There are 2 different ones. One ends in 001 and one ends in 002. I believe you want the 002 but not positive. One is for the 83 to 84 model years with the b23f motor. if yours is 86 then that would be the b230f motor. In any case, you are lucky to need the cheaper of the 2. So look at your Bosch number and get the one that corresponds to that. If the MAF sensor is not reading the currect amount of air then the car will not idle or rev. A way of discovering if the MAF is bad is letting it idle and unplugging it from the harness. If the idle changes or it revs better than the MAF is bad. You will however, get black smoke when you unplug the sensor.

Oh, one more thing...I recently diagnosed this same problem after a mechanic could not figure it out. Volvos can be tricky but I love them all the same

Good Luck
