Arm rest and cup holder install
Hi- This is the latest 240 wagon of mine. Its in great shape and only needed an arm rest and cup holder. I purchased one today which is nearly new. Its the kind with the dual cup holders front and back and which also flips up. The woman said it screws onto the square top of the plastic console between the front seats but that seems like it would be rather flimsy. Can anyone tell me the proper way to secure this unit so it will be more solid?
Thanks
Michael

there should be a metal bracket underneath the plastic ebrake consonsole that has a split in the middle ans 2 screw holes on either side...this is where you screw the arm rest in that you have...if you do not have this mounting bracket on your car already...you need to get it...

Brian, pretty sure he got it on eBay...possibly one of the other forums. They were only on the 93's originally. They don't come up for sale often...the cup holder portion is quite dainty and once they are broken the arm rest is not worth much. The standard, non-cup holder is much softer and thus more comfortable. But...to have a drink holder in a 240 is awesome!
This is what to look for...

Yes Swift, the piece the e-brake is on. I think he was trying to fix the seat heater switch and, rather than remove the armrest properly, he just hacked it up. The one in your pics does look nice and comfy. I'm wondering if I could fabricate something using an armrest from another car like ones from cars with bench seats?

I'm sure you could...but the standard armrests are quite common and reasonably priced. The one immediately above I had recovered a couple of years ago...just sold it for $55 to help offset the price of the cup holder model I just purchased. $40-50 seems to be the going rate for the standard ones. They come up on eBay fairly regularly. I doubt you could fabricate one for much less.
