bad bad engine knocking
here's the deal. last week i took my car to my buddy's house and we did a bunch of stuff. we changed the timing belt, fixed an oil leak coming from the oil pressure sensor, changed all the fan belts, oil change, and a few more things. the car was running perfectly and i was very happy at how she ran. night before last i was driving the car and it decides to stall right after i got off the freeway. she didn't stall but just wanted to. i made it into a parking lot and checked to see what was happening. at first it sounded like an ignition problem. so i checked the spark plugs, ignition cap, etc. i reved the engine a few times and suddenly a bit of white smoke started coming out of the exhaust pipe. so i shut the engine off. i checked a few more things and started the car again. this time suddenly there was a loud engine knocking noise. i shut it off again and started one more time. it started to sound like someone chucked a metal nut in the engine and it was just running wild in there while the engine was going. i got towed that night and i checked the timing belt and everything we did at my bud's house but all was well. engine knock will not go away. what do you guys think is the problem??? is my engine done for??? the sound literally sounds like someone threw a metal nut into the engine. think of a metal nut in a blender and you got it.

Sounds like the motor is done for... You guys overwhelmed it with all the new parts, the old parts couldn't keep up...

Yeah the connection rods are attached to the crank and pistons and moves up and down in the block.

damnit... i dont have the tools to fix that mess. do you guys think its gonna be solved by a replacement of the connecting rod that messed up??? or is it that the whold damn motor is just done for and i should look for another car??? i wish we hadn't fixed all that stuff... my car would still be alright...

Not 100% sure if that is the problem, but it sounds like that might be.
The only way you will know what is wrong, is opening up the motor and checking.
You said you don't have the tools to do this so:I would start looking for another one.
These cars are pretty inexpensive so I would just find another one that is clean, and sell this one as is for parts.

RE: bad bad engine knocking
From what you are describing, it sounds like you may have either popped a head gasket or cracked a cylinder head (the sudden white smoke). If this is the case, the offending cylinder filled with water and "hydrauliced" the cylinder, since you cannot compress a liquid. The sure-fire way to know is to pull your dipstick and/or oil fill cap. If your oil level is suddenly way too high, and either what is on the dipstick or what is in the oil filler cap looks like tan mayonaisse, you have your answer. Your overflow jug and/or radiator will also be low.
