cruise control & throttle cable mess
All-
Apologies if this is a re-asked question; however I could not find a similar problem like it.
I just replaced the head gasket on my 1990 740 GL (Jerry). Jerry is very happy and running better than ever with one exception.
Problem: If the cruise control is on and the "kick down" (shifts into a lower gear) is activated going up an incline or I push on the gas while in cruise (going up an incline) the throttle line comes off its pulley and gets stuck onto the cruise pulley. The engine is stuck at 2500 - 3000 rpm. I have to shut off the car, and untangle the cables.
Exception: This above problem will not happen if the cruise is on and the freeway is relatively flat.
The cables are properly routed according to Chilton's and the cruise holds well and is steady. I doubt if it has anything to do with the HG work, but I did have to remove/reassemble some of it to remove the intake manifold.
Does anyone have any ideas?

First, the Cruise should not be used in either one of those examples: it is for "cruising", i.e. going on flat surface maintaining an even speed.
Still, probably something is off in the pulleys alignment to get the cables to tangle up--it is a pretty straight forward mechanism. I'd make sure the whole thing is in a good nick and routed right, that's all you can do. May be get another spool set up from a JY if it's convenient?

The spools are new to Jerry. The original ones had a cable misalignment and the throttle cable was off the pulley and on the spindle shaft (sort of) while filing the pulley to such an edge that an atom could get cut in half. As a consequence, I replaced all of the spools and springs.
I rarely use the cruise since I live deep in the Black Hills of SD, so experimenting with alignment of cables to spool cluster is not an easy task. The cluster does have a little bit of adjustment (I was using existing marks on the manifold for alignment). I will try towards the radiator first (about 1 mm on the manifold).
