RE: Fuel Pump relay location on 940
I am having an intermittent no start problem, and am not sure if it is the pump or the relay that is causing the problem. I'm going to start with the relays first and when it shows itself again I will jump the relays first to see if that is the cause and go from there. Is the big black relay easily jumped like the smaller one in the ashtray area? Thanks again.

RE: Fuel Pump relay location on 940
do you have problems when the tank is under half full?
i had that on my 740 and my mom has that on her 940. the problem is that in the tank there is an extra pump for when the fuel goes under half tank. after being marinaded in fuel for a few years, the wiring gets a little corroded, and stops working. easy fix, once you get to the problem. done it a few times myself, no big deal. just don't smoke when your doing it..

Hmmm...never heard of that before, but I am surely going to watch the fuel gauge now and see when it happens again. Do I need to actually pull the in tank pump entirely out or can you just work on the wires where it is? Also, did you just remove the corrosion on the wires or did you have to replace all of them? Thanks,

it can be done from the acesspanel in the trunk, but that is so tight, i don't even want to start on that.
easies is to run the tank nearly dry, then jack the car up, remove the metalstraps holding the tank and drop it down gently. just remember to take the fuel lines off BEFORE you drop the tank down, or else you'll have to change them all the way. then when the tank is off, you simply unscrew the whole lid that holds the fuel line connections and the fuel gauge assembly. just be careful not to damage anything. you'll see straight away if the wires are f**ked up.
a few hints:
when dropping the tank. use a pice of wood and a jack to support the tank while you loosen the straps at BOTH ends. or else the bracket will bend, and it'll be one hell of a job getting it back in place.
make sure you don't bend the fuel lines when disconnecting/connecting.
also make sure you don't get any dirt in the lines. and that's easier said than done, due to where the lines are. (you'll understand when you see it)
mark all the lines so you get them right when your putting it back together.
but, the most important tip i can give is how to see if the pump is bust before you do any work. if you turn the key so you hear the main pump go when your tank is under half, try doing this 5-6 times and see if it starts any easier first. if it does, start looking for a flat place to stand.
hope this helps
